I always think using a natural lip balm is crucial because, as you lick your lips or eat, you end up ingesting most of the products. Ensure your lip balm is chemical-free by making your own.
Beeswax is a staple to keep your product solid, as it has a very high melting point. It is also anti-bacterial and protects your lips from the elements.
Shea butter and Coconut oil are moisturizing, protective, very emollient and edible!
You will be adding in a bit of oil, so healing Calendula oil is always great, but olive, Grapeseed or Jojoba work well, too.
In a double boiler, melt together:
- 1 Tablespoon unbleached beeswax
- 1 Tablespoon Shea butter or Coconut oil
Remove from heat and add:
- 1 Tablespoon oil of choice
Mix well and pour into a small tin or jar. This recipe makes approximately 1oz.
Shelf life depends on the freshness of your oils and how you use the product. Always use with clean hands and avoid water getting into your product as it promotes bacteria growth.
