By now, you might know I am having a love affair with matcha. It’s a powder from crushed green tea leaves that I have been adding to bliss balls, smoothies and my water when I work out to boost energy (without the jitters!) and give me a blast of antioxidants while I’m at it.
Antioxidants are important to boost immunity, ward off disease and protect against premature signs of aging. The best part about this wonderful news is that some antioxidants are produced by your own body, and you can get additional antioxidants from plant-based foods.
This smoothie is packed with them and it makes a great alternative to that second cup of mid-day coffee. Lately, I have been drinking smoothies after a workout, to hydrate and refuel while I cook up some protein. Using a base of coconut water is the ultimate way to rehydrate the body, while healthy fats, spinach, fruit and matcha give you the boost of energy, and antioxidants, that your body craves.
In a blender, combine:
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 1 banana
- 1 handful organic spinach
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/2 kiwi
- 1 tsp matcha powder
Add water to thin, if desired. Blend and enjoy!
