A Collagen Smoothie for Energy + Glow ~ From the Inside Out

Collagen peptides might seem like the new avocado toast as far as food trends go. Fairly so, because like avocado toast, a little collagen packs alot of punch in the nutrient category.

Before a workout or during the day in place of my second cup of coffee, I usually sneak in a matcha tea. During exercise, you need antioxidants to protect from free radicals that occur during that oxygen intake. Matcha on it’s own is high in these antioxidants, and collagen peptides add to the mix. The combination of these powerhouses provide your body with energy, bone and connective tissue strength, and our favourite — anti-aging properties.

I am one who cannot exercise fasted.  I burn fuel quickly and tap into my glycogen stores at full force, ending my workout hungry! I always keep my pre-workout snack balanced with some healthy fat (usually avocado or nuts) and protein, along with carbs.

Easy to digest smoothies are simple and quick and can be taken on the road, if necessary. Try my new go-to combo of collagen and matcha for an energy boost any time of day. This one I particularly like because of it’s electrolytes, important during exercise for hydration, especially if you use coconut water.

In a blender, add:

  • 1 cup cashew milk, coconut water or almond milk
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 tsp collagen peptides
  • 1 tsp matcha powder (or add a combined Matcha Collagen version)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 kiwi or apple
  • 1 tsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 ice cubes

Blend until smooth and creamy and drink 1 hour pre-workout, or during the day for energy in place of coffee.
